Week 4!
Wrapping up this week with our Costume Design, Makeup, and Props! One of my favorite parts was coming up with our costume and make-up design for our characters.
Costume Design:
While we had a cast of three members we highly focused on the two characters Avery and Officer Garcia. Starting Off with Avery, with two costumes needed. We first had a casual outfit that any typical teenager would wear; jeans, black tee's, hoodie's etc. Our actress chose to wear her regular clothes a black long sleeve and jeans to fit into this teenager look. In our discussion of our character development blog this simple outfit played well with Avery's personality. For our second and most important look we gave the character a hospital gown. We choose this to add sense of chaos and mentally ill approach, almost as if she came straight in from the hospital and was placed in jail cell. My group and myself added dirt stain's and blood to give off that dusty and used vibe from the gown since when purchased it would be new. The pictures below display our actress and group member Carolina in the hospital gown with makeup and hair done. As for our character Officer Garcia was a bit challenge to come up with a costume design. Our group and myself did not have access to a police officer or appropriate uniform of one. Instead we improvised with Emma's dad playing as Officer Garcia wardrobe. His outfit consisted of dark blue/navy button up shirt, blue jeans, brown belt and black sneakers. The approach was for a business casual appeal not to formal but not unprofessional.
Makeup:
Our makeup was mainly focused with the hospital gown scene for Avery. So luckily Officer Garcia needed no additional touches. We focused on mostly keeping the actresses face natural but emphasizing on a tired/hazy look on her face. With researching and looking at tutorials and references we applied nude colors from an eye shadow pallet. Such as Brown's and some black as well as adding blush to add some redness under eyes to create a tired and drained expression. Almost as if Avery never slept in her cell. In the pictures below display how this look came out. Along with the eye makeup we added small amounts of fake blood during shooting on hands and face to add a little gore and blood!
Props:
Props were essential for Officer Garcia's role. While we used one notable prop for Avery, most props were for the purpose of Officer Garcia's costume. With the supplies of emma's garage and stationary items we used Fake gun (dot blaster), walkie talkies (that were real), waist holder for gun, Rope, and handcuffs'( fake), white chalk marker. While most the objects were fake it still helped add more detail and overall look to our officer. Within the film it is not notecable you see all the items but were used somehow and some way in our film. Within our set we bought three backdrops
